MISTAKES

We all make mistakes, and that’s inevitable. Sometimes we can pick ourselves up and dust off those mistakes and learn from them, and sometimes we need a little help finding our way afterwards. Honestly, I’ve made more than my fair share of mistakes in the past, mistakes that I deeply regret and that I fear may haunt me for the rest of my life if I don’t watch my back.

But it took a very nice older woman to remind me that there are a lot of people around me that are there to help me get back up. And to be honest, it saddens me a bit that those people that are there aren’t even my own set of friends. My girlfriend  and her friends have opened up to me and told me straight up, “We’re here if you need us, don’t be afraid to come to us.” That’s so much more than I can say about some people around me. The people I’ve met and befriended over these past few years have been little help whenever I needed a place to go or someone to talk to. Sure, a handful of them were there when I was down, and I cherish those few deeply, but the majority pretty much left me hanging when I came to them, didn’t even check up on me afterwards.

So my best advice to anyone out there is that you should embrace the mistakes you make. Avoid them if you can, but don’t deny them if they happen. Your mistakes can confirm your will, your character, and the reliability of those that you consider close to yourself.

And learn from your mistakes, that’s all we can hope for as people. To learn. That older woman I mentioned, she said to me “Everyone makes mistakes. Just because I’m older doesn’t mean I stopped making mistakes. All we can do is learn and ask for :)
